Philco PC

The Philco PC concept. Inspired by a 1950′s Philco Predicta television set.  An eclectic mixture of modern minimalism, the steampunk movement and antiques.

“The result is a design aesthetic that blends multiple elements of the familiar, but with some surprisingly fresh styling that just so happens to house a state-of-the-art Windows 7 PC.”

Original industrial design by Dave Schultze | SchultzeWORKS designstudio. Don’t miss the video after the images.

I want that keyboard! I really like the design, and I hope that something like this or at least part of the design becomes a reality.

I want that key board as well… and the whole computer. The only problem is that it said starting ‘windows’… lets see them take a mac and put it in that package.

I’m sold! I’d love to see a kind of a mug shot, just a straightforward, no-angle photo of the whole machine. Also what does the dial on the computer do?

  4. Everything about this is unique in exactly the right way. I’ve always been a fan of Predicta sets and you just really pulled this off. Excellent job. I would buy six of these.

Someone already did the keyboard, I found this a while ago.

Just proves that this is definitely doable. Nice mockup, Mr. Schultze!

You discounted this keyboard as being done already but I beg to differ. There is a very clear aesthetic difference between an 1880s industrial age cyberpunk keyboard and a 1950s or 60s electronic and plastic style keyboard. You see, it’s not about the fact that he has torn apart and rebuilt a keyboard…it’s about the specific material and design choices he made that meke it unique.

  7. Thanks for all the lively posts. It’s cool to see that the design is so “comment worthy.”

    • Hello Dave…why not a Mac version?

      December 20, 2009 @ 20:48
      • Good question. An Apple Mac version would be fine by me (as long as they pay for it!) but it didn’t occur to me as a good fit with their fairly rigid styling aesthetic. I do love their stuff — and own lots of it — but all of my workstations are PC’s due to software requirements. One of my primary motivations for the project was the observation that most PC designs suck. Apple is doing great work and doesn’t need any help!

        • there’s always a but…the most important is the design concept. You did a great a job. I agree with your observation. I want a good computer, but our eyes need a little more. One ugly black box isn’t enough.

  8. Soooooo when can I get one with a mac computer inside?

  2. [...] [...]
